For MAC lovers this is a long time coming. We all remember the malware that infected over 600,000 MACs earlier this year by taking advantage of a JAVA vulnerability that was patched in most versions of JAVA but not addressed by Apple. Why? Because Apple stopped its JAVA support in 2010. Today’s announcement by Oracle is likened to the bipartisan passing of legislation that actually does something good for the middle class. Oh, well I digress.
Oracle’s announcement states “with this release, Oracle is providing full availability of Java SE 7 Update 6 on Mac OS X, including the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and the Java Development Kit (JDK), as well as the JavaFX 2.2 rich client platform and JavaFX Scene Builder.” Cutting through all of the pomp and circumstance…….. all this means is that finally we consumers will soon be able to download JRE for MAC OS X at Java.com.
So, what is the sweetest of them all? Oracle will provide auto-updates for Mac OS X at the same time as for Windows platforms! Finally, Apple and Oracle working TOGETHER. Whodathunk?
